Grant recommends playing catch, Frisbee, or paddle ball in the park or games like her family’s favorite, “fox & geese” at the beach. This game combines fitness and fun according to Grant, “Draw a HUGE circle in the sand with your foot and then make a cross in the middle of the circle. It’s a tag game - the players must all stay on the lines, and the fox chases the geese. It’s wild and exciting and exhausting! Talk about interval work!” Swimming and skating, including visiting local skate parks, are good options, too. Grant believes that summer should be a time for family fun. “There is so much pressure on kids these days to win-win-win, push-push-push, and I understand the benefits of doing one’s best,” relates Grant. “But, I also firmly believe that kids need plenty of goof-offs, no pressure PLAY time.”
